Children, Youth & Their Families
People brought babies to Jesus, hoping he might touch them.
When the disciples saw it, they shooed them off. Jesus called them back.
"Let these children alone. Don't get between them and me.
These children are the kingdom's pride and joy.
Mark this: Unless you accept God's kingdom
in the simplicity of a child, you'll never get in."
~Luke 18:15-17 the Message
At St. John's we recognize that Sunday morning worship is one of the few places in American society where all five living generations meet together on a regular basis. In worship we aim to create a space where the wisdom of the elder and the wonder of the child collide on a regular basis because we believe we are all richer for sharing that experience.
We also recognize that sometimes children and youth are best served gathering among their peers. In Sunday School, Confirmation, and Youth group we aim to create spaces for peer-to-peer learning and building life-long relationships with peers.
We don't claim to be "all things to all people" but in providing a variety of opportunities for all of our generations we have opportunities to grow as disciples ready to serve the world.
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
"The greatest legacy one can pass on to one's children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one's life, but rather a legacy of character and faith." ~Billy Graham
"The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children." ~Dietrich Bonhoeffer
"You may speak but a word to a child, and in that child there may be slumbering a noble heart which shall stir the Christian Church in years to come." ~Charles Spurgeon
"Children are unpredictable. You never know what incosistency they are going to catch you in next." ~Henry Ward Beecher
