Children's Ministry Coordinator, part time

Are you committed to helping children grow in their Christian faith and life?  St. John’s is seeking a program leader to help families live out that goal.  As the Children’s Ministry Coordinator, you would be responsible for: coordinating the work of the Sunday School; leading the Sunday School leadership team in planning, organizing, recruiting and equipping your volunteers; and in mobilizing members to achieve goals.  This position reports to the ‘Children, Youth, and Their Families Ministry Leader’.

The ideal candidate will have: a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Children' ministry, or related field, or equivalent life/work experience; an understanding of Lutheran theology and the ability to integrate it into the education program; demonstrated skills in organization; effective communication skills and possess interpersonal and teamwork skills to interact effectively with all areas of the church.  


The position is expected to work an average of 15 hours per week with specific Sunday morning hours and meetings scheduled during the week.  This is a salaried position with pay based on experience.

Music Director, part time


Would you like to make a difference in people’s lives through music? The music at St. John’s Lutheran Church is rich, varied, and meant to draw people into the presence of God through powerful worship. You will be our Primary Organist and will work collaboratively with Pastors and the Worship Team in the oversight and support of all phases of the our music programs including: Primary Worship Musicians, Senior Choir, Handbell Choir, Contemporary/Praise Band, Kids of the Kingdom, and instrumental ensembles. We are looking for that special person who is a skilled musician and choir director, and who also has the interpersonal and collaborative skills to recruit and coordinate volunteer supporters, plan and lead rehearsals, and plan the yearly schedule of performances.

The ideal candidate will have: five years of related experience in a Lutheran Church and a Bachelor’s Degree in music, or equivalent life/work experience; performance level musician skills on organ/piano; and broad knowledge of traditional liturgical and contemporary Christian music styles. Custodian, part time


Are you a people person who takes pride in maintaining a clean, hospitable environment? Are you eager to pitch-in with additional tasks to support the team? St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brookfield, a large, modern facility, welcomes a friendly Custodian to assist with a variety of custodial and light maintenance tasks throughout our ten acre property. Duties also include intermittent cleaning to supplement our cleaning service. For the right candidate, this position could increase in hours to include all cleaning duties. The current position will require about ten to fifteen hours per week. Hiring pay range is $12 to $15 per hour based on experience.


Primary responsibilities:

  • Sets up and takes down tables and chairs for events
  • Makes small repairs and does minor maintenance work
  • Reports problems/repairs in writing to supervisor
  • Cleans carpets as needed and performs major all-building carpet cleaning annually
  • Services and maintains water softener
  • Cleans and dusts in high places and changes light bulbs using ladders
  • Performs intermittent cleaning of the building and after large functions
  • Shovels and salts outside walkways after a snowfall
  • Monitors outside landscape issues weekly 
  • Attends monthly Property Committee meetings and completes tasks as requested.

Job requirements:

  • 2 years custodial experience including cleaning, maintenance, repair and event set up
  • Self-motivated and able to work without supervision to organize and prioritize duties
  • High school graduate, able to speak, read and write English
  • Must pass criminal background check and drug test
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs regularly, climb ladders, and use cleaning equipment/hand tools
  • Must be flexible regarding work schedule, able to work times to meet needs of church.
