Confirmation

Why do we do confirmation?

Confirmation is the process through which we share our faith stories and traditions with our middle school youth as they mature in their Christian faith and claim as their own the promises of Holy Baptism.

How do we sign up?

Contact Joanna Salinas, Middle School Ministry Coordinator (for 5th-8th grade), Stephanie Broussard, Youth Ministry Coordinator (for 9th grade), or Pastor Karen with questions!

Confirmation Overview

5th & 6th Graders/Sunday School

The 5th & 6th grade Pre-Confirmation year will provide a solid overview of the Bible focusing on conversations and lessons matching the weekly Bible readings in worship. The class meets twice monthly on Sunday evenings.

7th and 8th Grade/Confirmation

The 7th and 8th grade confirmation classes will meet twice monthly on Sunday evenings from 4:30-6:00 p.m. In these two years, students will study Martin Luther, the Ten Commandments, Faith in Life, the Apostle’s Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Sacraments. Using a curriculum based on Luther’s Small Catechism, the classes will learn how a Lutheran faith built in their lives today is rooted in ancient teachings. This class is taught by Pastor Brian.

In addition to weekly classes, students are expected to attend and participate in worship with their families.

9th Grade Confirmation Year – and CONFIRMATION DAY

In the fall, our 9th grade students begin their journey toward their Affirmation of Baptism, celebrated on the first Sunday in May.

Throughout the year, students grow in faith, fellowship, and service through four main commitments:

  1. Fall Retreat

A weekend away designed to build community, deepen friendships, and connect with our high school leadership team.

  1. Monthly Gatherings

Sunday evening sessions focused on exploring world religions. Each month includes both learning together and experiencing worship in another faith tradition.

  1. Community Service

Students complete independent service hours in ways that are meaningful to them—living out their faith through action in the community.

  1. High School Youth Group

Regular participation in our biweekly youth group (September–April) helps students grow in discipleship, fellowship, and leadership.

Confirmation Day

In May, students and their families gather for two milestone celebrations:

  • Confirmation Eve – a joyful evening of celebration with family and friends.
  • Affirmation of Baptism – held on the first Sunday in May, when students publicly affirm their faith and commitment to Christ.
