Confirmation

Why do we do confirmation?

Confirmation is the process through which we share our faith stories and traditions with our middle school youth as they mature in their Christian faith and claim as their own the promises of Holy Baptism.

How do we sign up?

Confirmation Overview

5th & 6th Graders/Sunday School

The 5th & 6th grade Pre-Confirmation year will provide a solid overview of the Bible focusing on conversations and lessons matching the weekly Bible readings in worship. The class meets twice monthly on Sunday evenings.

7th and 8th grade/Confirmation

The 7th and 8th-grade confirmation classes will meet twice monthly on Sunday evenings from 4:30-6:00 p.m. (alternating weeks with 5th and 6th graders.) In these two years, students will study Martin Luther, the Ten Commandments, Faith in Life, the Apostle’s Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Sacraments. Using a curriculum based on Luther’s Small Catechism, the classes will learn how a Lutheran faith built in their lives today is rooted in ancient teachings. This class is taught by Pastor Brian.

In addition to weekly classes, students are expected to attend and participate in worship with their families.

9th Grade Confirmation Year – and CONFIRMATION DAY

In fall, students begin to work toward their day of Confirmation in May.

There are 4 things in which students participate:

  • Fall retreat to get to know one another and our mentors better.
  • Learn about world religions and attend a worship service at their place of worship.
  • Complete independent community service that is meaningful to each student.
  • Attend High School youth group Sunday evenings.

In May our students participate in Confirmation Eve (a celebration on their behalf) and the Affirmation of Baptism Service.
